The Blue Spiny Lobster can be kept with multiple specimens. It might bother sessile invertebrates or other bottom dwelling animals that is why the Blue Spiny Lobster is considered reef safe but with caution. It requires a well established tank with lots of live rocks and multiple crevices to hide. Initially the Blue Spiny Lobster might be found hidden in the hiding spots, but once it is acclimatized it comes out more frequently from its hiding spot and becomes more visible. The Blue Spiny Lobster may perform a dance-like maneuver, whipping its long, split white antennae as it moves about the tank. It is also capable of making a sound that is very similar to a locust. The Blue Spiny Lobster is omnivores and mainly feeds on all type of meaty foods that are placed in the aquarium. It is extremely difficult to breed in captivity and is sensitive to high levels if copper-based medications. Since the Blue Spiny Lobster features five pairs of legs and a broad tail, it can move quickly in reverse. It undergoes molting, and is vulnerable to injury when molting as its carapace becomes very soft. Therefore we advise you to provide them ample hiding spots in the tank. The Blue Spiny Lobster is very easy to care for and makes a good choice for a beginner aquarist. It thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4.
