The Acropora Coral, Acropora sp., is a multi-colored, quick growth, "axial" corallite that comes in many shapes and sizes. The genus Acropora has over 400 species, most of which are found in the Pacific Ocean. Acropora Corals come in many different colors. Their branches are extremely varied as no two Acropora Corals will be identical. They have very small polyps and are known as SPS corals (small polyp stony). Keep in mind while housing Acropora corals that they grow extremely fast, so allow plenty of room for them to stretch out. Acropora corals should only be kept by experienced aquarists as they are notoriously difficult and fickle to minor fluctuations in tank specifications. They are best kept in tanks with high lighting and strong waterflow and like to be placed towards the top of tanks. Pristine water conditions must be kept and temperature must be regulated as well. Nitrate and phosphate levels should be as close to zero as possible. Some Acropora Coral are aquacultured meaning it was born and raised in a tank environment making it more suitable to thriving there than specimens from the wild. Overall, Acropora Corals are incredibly unique and beautiful but they are difficult to keep, If you are up to the task you will get rewarded with this beauty in your tank and if kept successful they can be fragged and cultured in home aquariums with success.
