As its name suggests, the Blue sponge has a blue body which looks splendid in the water while moving elegantly. The blue sponge possesses a peaceful nature and should not be housed with predator species, as they might release toxins. The blue sponge grows up to a size of 7 inches and should not be housed in a tank of less than 30 gallons. Make sure to provide a moderate to high water current, as water movement is crucial for the survival of the blue sponge. Check whether the tank is crowded with rocks and corals, as the sponges require good lighting. It is best to keep it in a temperature range of 72-78 F, pH 8.1-8.4, and specific gravity 1.023-1.025. The blue sponges filter out the detritus and bacteria from the moving water in the tank, thus makes a valuable addition to the home aquarium. We recommend you provide the sessile Blue sponge with a diet of dissolved organic food along with high quality phytoplanktons, and micro organisms for its continued good health. The Blue sponge is reef safe and does not disturb any invertebrates present in the home tank. The blue sponge should not be exposed to air, as the air particles get trapped in its atria, obstructing the way of the food from entering. The Blue sponge is tough to care and maintain, thus it is only recommended for an experienced aquarist.
