The Clown Goby - Black is commonly referred to as the G. ceramensis, G. acicularis. The Black Clown Goby is a small fish that does not bother other fishes, and is easy to care for, which makes it a very good choice for novice aquarists. The Black Clown Goby can be kept singly, or in pairs in a tank. It looks really interesting, how they sit comically on a rock or hover in the water column and waits to be fed. The Black Clown Goby should not be kept in tanks less than 5 gallons for a single goby, and 10 gallon for multiple gobies. It is considered reef safe as it only prefers to live in corals to perch on, however nipping of slime protruding from the coral may become problematic to the coral if it receives too much attention from a yellow clown goby. It also does well in a larger aquarium, where it may select its territory. The Black Clown Goby is generally not compatible with same species else it is not aggressive or excessive territorial to other fishes. For its smaller size, it might become food for many larger fishes, therefore avoiding housing it with larger wrasses, hawkfish or basses, and predatory fish, such as lionfish or triggerfish. Often, the Black Clown Goby spawns only if provided good nutrition and a comfortable environment. Some can be stubborn in accepting foods in captivity, therefore we advise you to first get the Black Clown Goby adjusted to small frozen foods, and then give it larger foods, such as enriched brine shrimp.
