The Flame Hawkfish is also popularly known as the Brilliant Red Hawkfish. The Flame Hawkfish will often be found hidden among the branches of live corals and typically retreat itself deep in the same when firghtened. It has beautiful bright red slender body with a black dorsal fin. As the Flame Hawkfish grows, the dorsal fin grows longer and also transforms its shape. We suggest you to provide the Flame Hawkfish with constant moving water and also with well oxygenated water in the reef aquarium. It may lose its vibrant red color in the aquarium if not provided with proper nutrition. The Flame Hawkfish thrives well in 75-80 degree Fahrenheit and spends most of its time near the bottom. It accepts live, frozen or even dry food, which makes the feeding very easy. Make sure you feed them with high protein rich diet and vitamin rich foods to maintain its color throughout. The male Flame Hawkfish is larger than the females, and the fish of this species is a pelagic spawner. It is not an aggressive fish towards other and loves to hop around on the rocks, thus keeping live rocks are beneficial. The Flame Hawkfish is hardy and can tolerate a wide water changing parameters, therefore makes a very good addition to any reef tank. It may become aggressive towards other smaller community fish and hence likely to attack any invertebrates such as shrimp. The Flame Hawkfish should be kept in a tank not less than 20 gallon with plenty of space and rock work to swim and perch on respectively. Though, the Flame Hawkfish is a small fish, but can grow up to 3.5 to 4 inches in the aquarium.
