The Giant Cup Mushroom, Amplexidiscus sp., is one of the largest mushroom species available for the home aquarium. It is also known as the Giant Disc Anemone, Large Elephant Ear, Giant Mushroom Anemone, and Giant Flower Coral. It can reach a diameter of 15 inches in the home aquarium so be sure you have lots of space allocated for this specimen. One of the more unique abilities of the Giant Cup Mushroom coral is as a predator of fish. If a fish gets too close it can get caught up in the mushroom and actually be eaten by it. For this reason it is usually best not to house slow fish with the Giant Cup Mushroom. They prefer a tank with a sandy substrate and plenty of live rock. They will eat a lot of meaty foods so be sure to keep them well fed, and they require medium waterflow and medium light levels.

This specimen can range in color, most common colors being tan, white, brown or grey.
