The Golden Spot Hogfish (Bodianus perditio) can be found throughout the Pacific Ocean, primarily on the edges of large reef structures. Juveniles and females will be yellow/brown in color on their main body with a dark patch under the end of their dorsal fin, and a white/gold stripe in front of the dark patch which is what gives them their namesake. Males will have a more red/pink color body, and some may have a yellow or lighter colored head as well. They primarily inhabit reefs with high amounts of algae for grazing, and feed on a variety of invertebrates, though mainly crustaceans. They reach a maximum size of 30 inches and should be kept with other large fish of similar temperament.
