The Red Mangrove, Rhizophora sp., is a unique plant addition to a saltwater aquarium. The Mangrove pod is suitable to be planted in sand, wedged in rock, or in sumps and refugiums, If given a proper amount of lighting, the roots should take hold of their surroundings shortly after being planted. The Mangrove plant can be beneficial in the aquarium as well as they can help lower nitrate and phosphate levels but be careful not to let the mangrove leaves contaminate your tank as they can throw off specification levels. The Mangrove plant does not require excessive maintenance, only the occasional trim to control growth and wiping of excess salt from the leaves.
