An extremely rare hybrid from the Solomon Islands, the White Bonnet Clownfish is reported to be the naturally occurring cross between A. chrysopterus and A. sandaracinos. Although captive specimens rarely exhibit the bright, apricot-like color of their wild counterparts, they do retain the variable nature of the head stripe and cheek bars. Their name comes from the bonnet like white head stripe that the White Bonnet Clownfish exhibit.  These "bonnets" can also be exhibited as cheek dots or broken stripes. Frequently, these stripes turn blue with age.  ORA reports that this is a trait that comes from the A. chrysopterus side of their family. The White Bonnet Clownfish can reach a maximum length of about 4 inches and is absolutely delightful for beginners and experts alike.  Please note: The White Bonnet clownfish pictured is to give a general idea of what these fish look like, each fish can exhibit different white markings.  This listing is for a Standard White Bonnet Clownfish.  Also available from ORA are the A Grade White Bonnet Clownfish, and the AA Grade White Bonnet Clownfish (premium).  If you would like to purchase the A Grade or AA Grade White Bonnet Clownfish, they are available in our Eye It & Buy It section.  The differences are as follows:

AA Grade White Bonnet Clownfish will retain all the features of an idealized wild caught specimen. Complete white head bonnet with connected cheek straps. The premium version of this fish. From our broodstock pair, the male would be considered AA Grade.

A Grade White Bonnet Clownfish will have broken or incomplete white head bonnets. Cheek stripes will reach at least the midpoint of the eye on one or both sides. From our broodstock pair, the female would be considered A Grade.

Standard White Bonnet Clownfish will retain some quantity of white head stripe pattern. Cheek stripes, if present, will not rise above the midpoint of the eye.
